Vladimir Kostić je diplomirao iz oblasti primenjene matematike 2003. god. na Departmanu za matematiku i informatiku Univerziteta u Novom Sadu, gde je i magistrirao 2009. god. i doktorirao 2010. Post-doktorsko usavršavanje je završio na Tehničkom univerzitetu u Belinu, Nemačka 2013/14. godine.
Od 2004. god. na Prirodno-matematičkom fakultetu Univerziteta u Novom Sadu radi kao asistent, potom od 2011. kao docent i od 2016. kao vanredni profesor. Osim toga, angažovan je na Fakultetu tehničkih nauka Univerziteta u Novom Sadu kao profesor i kao mentor na doktorskim studijama, gde je bio do sada mentor jedne odbranjene doktorske teze i dve teze koje su u završnom procesu odbrane.
Za svoja naučna dostignuća primio je sledeća priznanja: BMS Einstein Foundation Fellowship at the Technical University of Berlin (2013), 1st Young Scientists Award for a talk given on MATTRIAD 2007 Conference, Będlewo, Poland (2007), The Best Student of the University of Novi Sad Award (2004), Serbia The Honor Mileva Maric-Einstein of the University of Novi Sad (2004), Fellowship of the Fund of the Royal House of Karađorđević (2003), Award of High Academic Achievements by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Serbia (2002), The Annual University Honors, University of Novi Sad (2001-2003) <\eng>.
Pored objavljenih naučnih radova u visoko kotiranim međunarodnim časopisima, koautor je 3 priručnika za studente i jedne monografije. Predavanja po pozivu je održao na osam naučnih institucija širom sveta, učestovao je na preko 40 konferencija u okviru kojih je održao 5 izlaganja po pozivu.
Bio je sekretar organizacionog odbora šest međunarodnih skupova.
